ABOUT
COUNTRY CLUB ESTATES
Country Club Estates is a neighborhood in the City of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with approximately 300 homes. The area was the former site of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club's nine-hole golf course which was in use from the 1920s to the 1960s. The RBCC purchased a much larger site for an 18-hole golf course on Rehoboth Bay, where the club is still located today.

In 1963, the Serca Land Company ("Serca" is "Acres" spelled backwards) purchased the 65-acre tract for $360,000. The company submitted plans to build a 20-story apartment building, 300 townhouses in clustered groupings, a 100-unit hotel, and a shopping center, but these plans required a rezoning that was strongly opposed by residents in the City, and rejected by the City Commissioners.
Despite a redesign of the first plan, and a second plan whereby 2.6 acres would be developed to demonstrate what the entire area could look like, Serca's proposals were not approved by the City Commissioners , with the final vote occurring in December 1964. Ultimately, lots of approximately 50 x 100 were sold to build single-family houses, resulting in the neighborhood we see today on this site.
